Reading and Literacy Interventions

Literacy skills encompass reading and writing.

At Communicating Kids treatment is always individualized for your child's needs.

We use a multisensory, evidence based approach to help struggling emergent readers, including those with dyslexia become confident readers. Children struggling to learn to read are typically weak in phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and phonics skills.

Phonological awareness is the ability to understand that spoken words are made up of individual sounds and being able to manipulate sounds in words. Phonological awareness skills such as rhyming, identifying sounds in words, identifying syllables and sounding out words are precursors to reading and spelling. Phonics involves matching sounds to printed letters. Interventions targeting phonological skills and phonics are proven  to help children who are struggling to read improve reading skills.

Communicating Kids can help your child with all aspects of literacy including: decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, story telling, grammar, writing and more

We offer 45 minute and 60 minute literacy sessions in the comfort of your own home, in-person or virtually. Time to consult with the speech-language pathologist is built into every session. This is your time to ask questions, hear about your child's progress and learn how to support your child's continued learning at home.
